From Agile to Lean: How to begin your Lean Journey

Agile practitioners are often eager to begin using Lean practices, but struggle with an array of issues, including vague requirements, group/department boundaries, and securing buy-in. In this session we will provide an introduction to Lean principles and practices, and specifically focus on how organizations using Agile methods can begin to take advantage of Lean. This will be an interactive session, so bring your question and concerns and expect lively discussion.

Audience:

This session is aimed at director and VP level managers in IT organizations and software companies that are already using Agile methods, but would like to improve speed, scalability, capacity, and quality. Those attending are expected to have some awareness of Lean already. In order to facilitate open peer discussion among the participants, service providers and consultants may not attend this session.

You will learn about:

  • Going beyond user stories/use cases to quantify what really adds customer value
  • Determining what activities and practices that really add value
  • Understanding just how much documentation you need, where, and when
  • Defect prevention as a strategy to increase development capacity
  • Why defects should not the primary focus for testing
  • Refocusing testing on generating valuable information for your development/design process
  • Mapping your development value streams to find and address your real bottlenecks
  • Synchronizing upstream and downstream work, and synchronizing multiple teams
  • Making Toyota-style continuous improvement part of your culture
  • Bridging the gap between Engineering/IT and Business Goals
  • How to secure management buy-in
