Lean Software Product Development: Accelerating Innovation, Eliminating Waste

Lean began at Toyota and has since spread to a whole range of industries worldwide. Organizations as diverse as Cardinal Health, Boeing, American Express, General Electric, and Honeywell are using Lean philosophy and practices to achieve breakthrough results.

With software industry leaders like Wipro using Lean, and McKinsey recommending it to CIOs, Lean is becoming more mainstream in the IT sector as well. Organizations implementing Agile development are also increasingly looking to Lean to address challenges with scalability, knowledge management, and alignment across silos.

In this session we will discuss Lean Product Development in IT. Executives are often excited about Lean Product Development because of the bottom-line results this approach has been shown to deliver (up to 4 x R&D productivity, 70% schedule reduction, etc.) We will reveal powerful Lean practices that help IT executives reduce waste and focus their people more on results-oriented innovation. We will then show how this knowledge-driven approach results in better products and processes.

You will learn how to:

  • Map your product development system from five key perspectives
  • Pinpoint and diagnose bottlenecks by going beyond processes
  • Identify and eliminate delays and non-value-added work
  • Define crystal clear goals that focus your people on customer value
  • Redesign your product development system for breakthrough results
  • Introduce an organization-wide continuous innovation process
